All it takes is one traffic jam and a divorce

April 11th, 2006 · 1 Comment · Family Life

Last weekend was your average sort of weekend.

We had a Seder Supper at church. I invited my sister and my friend to go with us. The food was good, there was lots of wine, I enjoyed the company and I had never been, so it was interesting to learn something.

The BoyChild and I went to the Mall by ourselves Sunday. We bought him a new Easter outfit (shorts and a polo shirt), I let him pick where we went and what we did so we looked at the Hallmark store for a long time, we ate a hardy lunch at the food court and we had an M&M Cookies from the cookie place.

The BoyChild and I came home and got the Husband and the GirlChild. We took her Easter dress shopping. She has turned into such a lovely little girl young woman. We bought a beautiful dress, a pair of pink converse tennis shoes with ankle socks that match the dress. I think it satisifies my desire to have her look nice but her desire to look a little ecletic.

And then we bought the BoyChild a new pair of sandles at the Stride-Rite store. The BoyChild has, as one friend described her son’s feet, FlintStone feet; they are wide and tall and look like he could power his own car with them. We are still having to buy wide shoes for him which means there is only one place in town to buy them and it ain’t the local Target. That’s right we have to buy expensive shoes from the Stride Rite. But yesterday we lucked out and only had to pay $25 for his sandles. More than I usually spend on my own shoes, but a good deal for his.

We ended the evening with Chinese Food from our local Chinese restaurant, a little stitching and bed by 11:30.

This morning, I woke up rested. Got to work and got a call from a client. I met with the client and her husband, who I’d never met before. She told me when she came in last week that she really appreciated the work I was doing for her and today he expressed his appreciate for all the help I’m giving them. It’s nice to have greatful clients.

I was suppose to meet a friend for lunch. I got stuck in traffic for 45 minutes going to the restaurant. THAT put me in a funk. I know someplaces traffic jams are a fact of life but here they are an annoyance that made me want to call someone on my cell phone and complain.

It was ruining a good mood.

And then at lunch I learned a mutual friend of ours was divorcing. And all I could think was “shit.”

And it has all put me in a funk.

Ciao,

M&Co.

Divorce has long cold fingers that reach and touch lives far beyond those of the unreconcilable pair. It sucks.
