An Allergy Recipe Magazine?

February 2nd, 2008 · 6 Comments · Allergies, Cooking

I found this on The Gluten Free Bay. This is a gluten free blog I recently discovered. I can’t honestly say I’ve actually tried any recipes on the web site, but it’s got a lot of stuff I’m itching to try. Or has given me some ideas on stuff we could do.

Martha Stewart is having a contest on her blog. From her blog:

THE BIG IDEA IS A COMPANY-WIDE COMPETITION THAT GIVES STAFF MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THEIR OWN IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE OF MARTHA STEWART LIVING OMNIMEDIA. I WAS ABLE TO NARROW THE 40 ENTRIES DOWN TO 7 FINALISTS…BUT I JUST COULDN’T CHOOSE A WINNER…SO I’D LIKE YOU TO HELP ME DECIDE. HERE’S A SUMMARY OF THE PROPOSALS FROM OUR 2008 BIG IDEA FINALISTS!

And the suggestion I think everyone should vote for is made by Alexis, Deputy Home Editor. Alexis proposes a:

Special publication catering to those with food allergies and sensitivities that would include recipes
Big Idea: To publish a special magazine that offers delicious allergy-friendly recipes, making life for people with food allergies and sensitivities easier and more delicious. Millions of people, including myself, can’t eat nuts, dairy, wheat or gluten, and I’d like to empower people to make great recipes even if they can’t use all the standard ingredients.

We struggle, each and every single day, as we take more ingredients from the BoyChild’s diet, to figure out how to feed him, how to get him to eat and how to prepare special treats for him. Recently, I’ve been trying to figure out how to make a cinnamon crumble cake that he could eat for breakfast that would be (1) tasty, (2) nutritious and (3) didn’t contain any allergens. If someone like MS would do the ground work for me, that would be great!

Go vote for Alexis’ idea!

My sister has a friend in Chicago who does gluten free + vegan catering on the side. Her parties are amazing and you’d hardly know the difference because her presentation and food is so awesome.

Actually I do have her marked on my GoogleBlogs, Dani. And I’ve actually used some of her recipes too! They are yummy!

This sounds really good. My son is allergic to eggs, so I’m always looking for eggless recipes to try. My old standards (like meatloaf) require eggs, so it’s been a real (re)learning experience!
