Don’t know what to say

January 16th, 2008 · 9 Comments · Family Life

This morning the mother of one of the GirlChild’s classmates died. I didn’t really know this woman very well. Just the normal church/school/birthday parties/sports sort of stuff.

Her youngest is about 8, her middle child is about 13 and her oldest is about 16.

I think the entire time I have known her she has been sick. This is not unexpected.

It is gray and overcast. It has been drizzling all day. It is cold.

I cried at my desk.

So sad. Really, there isn’t much to say when something like that happens.

Oh no! Be gentle with yourself today – things like that have a way of resonating inside you for awhile.

Oh, so very sorry. We had a family aquaintance pass months ago and I still haven’t shaken the chill it gave me.

    I’m sorry. Take care.

I’m sorry. Be nice to yourself today. We all know this stuff can happen but it doesn’t mean it’s easy. Hugs.

We experienced something similar last year when a classmate of my son lost her mother to cancer, and to make matters worse or sadder, her father was not in the picture. She was essentially orphaned. Hopefully you’ll see the same goodness and outpouring that we saw in these parts. The little girl was cared for and shuttled to after school activities and the grandmother moved here from South America to look after her grandchildren and people in the community volunteered to teach her English. The silver lining to the cloud was that the village reached out and swept this little girl up and she continues to do as well as can be expected.

That is hard to swallow. Every time I see or hear of someone I kinda know who’s passed away and has kids…I think about the what if’s.

You know, what if it was us?

    My heart aches for them.
