Back to School Blues of a Different Sort

September 17th, 2006 · 3 Comments · Family Life

I think I’ve told you before, that I tend to get blue when school starts.

It’s all about the running around to tutoring, practices, games. It’s all the homework, projects and other things that need to be done. It’s about needing to get everyone to bed early, early, early and no one wanting to go to bed early and trying anyway. It’s all about not enough hours in the day or time to spend with my kids.

It’s also about the BoyChild bringing home disease and pestilence.

Everyone at my house has been sick this week. We’ve all had the same dry hacking cough. The same fatigue. The same sinus drainage.

I feel like I have the croup. When I get into a hot shower for awhile, I breath easier and my bronchial tubs don’t hurt. We brought the humidifier into our room last night, the BoyChild was much offended, but he needed it less than I did and I think it helped.

The BoyChild seems to be the carrier of these various bugs. He was sick for: One day. The GirlChild picked it up a day or two later. She was sick for: Two days. I came down with it a day after the GirlChild, and I feel like I’m just on the cusp of the well me. I’ve been sick for four days and counting. The Husband came down with it on Saturday. He’s got a few more hellish days to go. I feel sorry for him and at the same time, I don’t have the energy to take care of him.

And now that it has begun, it will be months before everyone in my house is well at the same time. Because we are old, it will take us another day or two to get over this affliction. And about the time we are hitting the tide of well-being, one of the kids will ride a wave of malaise back into our house that will start the process all over again.

Trying to look for the happy side of this………

At lease my kids don’t generally bring home the nausea and diarrhea types of illnesses.

I am just counting the days until Daria comes home with some sort of sickness. Tomorrow starts the third week of school – let’s keep happy, healthy thoughts going.

I think your Boychild gave it to my boy who brought it home and gave it to my girl. Husband and I are attempting to keep the illness at bay with a lot of vitamin C and minimal contact. The downstairs of the house has really come in handy during these times.

I am overwhelmed with everyhing I have on my plate right now too.

Hang in there. Hope you feel better.
