More Spam Filtering

April 26th, 2006 · 3 Comments · Computer Weirdness

I’ve added some MORE spam filtering features to my blog. Let me know if anything weird happens if you try to comment.

I liked the math thingie spam filter if for no other reason than to think it made everyone work hard to post a comment and nothing is worth it if it isn’t work. But it was putting weird stuff at the top of my blog sometimes, and sometimes not, and I couldn’t figure out why it was doing it and when it was doing it so I deactivated it.

Now I’ve got a feature which closes comments to my posts after 21 days. That actually kind of irritates me, that I have to do that, but most of the spam was coming from my older posts. And it seems to have worked. So that’s a good thing.

Why anyone would think that posting about on-line poker or prescription on-line drugs or on-line porn on my old blog posts is a mystery to me. I mean no one actually read my blog for a long, long time. Why would posting comments and links now, to entries which no one read when they were new, benefit anyone. I literally mean no one read my blog for a long long time. I was writing for someone else, and I was feeling a little weird about putting ANY of it out there for anyone to see so while I read blogs, when I commented I didn’t use my blog site and I never actually gave the blog site out to anyone to go read.

I’m still a little weird about the privacy thing. I mean anyone who wants to can probably figure out what state I live in, and probably the city as well. But I post picture of my kids on my blog and I think I’ve probably posted pictures of me. But when I write on Dot-Moms, I don’t have a link to my blog. Cause people I KNOW read that and then they’d know about my blog and then the world as we know it would come to an end!

Anyway, I’ve also added another feature that’s suppose to check the words and filter out anything bad. I’ve not quite figured out what it does with the comments it deems unworthy to go onto my blog but I’ll look into that. I guess the key to that for everyone is be nice.

A good rule to live by.

Ciao,

M&Co.

Interesting that you don’t link to your blog from dotmoms. I’ve struggled with that too – we didn’t publicize our blog to my family, although a few months ago, my mom did discover it. It’s been interesting ever since.

I don’t understand the blog spam. What exactly is the point?
