Feeling Frustrated

August 12th, 2011 · 2 Comments · Family Life

I’m feeling frustrated.

Since my weight in on 6-22-2011, I have gained and lost the same 3 and a half pounds over and over again.

I’ve hit the dreaded plateaus.  And I am working out too damned much to be losing and gaining like this.  Last week alone, I had 68 activity points-none of which I ate I might add.  I worked out 6 of 7 days.  I ran for four of those days and did yoga on two of those days and did strength training on two of those days.

I’m frustrated.  Beyond frustrated.  See I’m only about 5 pounds less than I was the last time (10-12 years ago) I was in Weight Watcher’s and hit a plateau.  And quit.  And I really don’t want that to happen again.  Nope.  Not gonna.

So.  I’ve decided to:

Mix up my breakfast.  I eat 2 boiled eggs for breakfast.  Every morning.  For 6 or more months.  This morning I had a 1 point tortilla, 1 point Oscar Meyer Deli ham and a 2 point piece of cheese.  Sort of a sandwich/burrito.  Who says you have to eat breakfat food for breakfast.

Yesterday I had a 1 point tortilla, a 2 point slice of bacon and 2 point scrambled egg.

Tomorrow?  I don’t know what I’m going to have but it will be something different.

I’ve been working pretty hard on keeping my dinner mixed up.

Last night I fixed a 10 point meal with sauted kale with garlic, baked broccoli and 4 ozs of talopi.  Most of those points came from the oils because the kale and broccoli don’t have any points and the talopi is great points for the amount of food you get.

The won ton soup I’ve been making is veggie rich and wonderful tasting.  I added it new last month.

The Pad Thai recipe (modified to make it more WW friendly) is a good 12-15 point meal depending on what exactly I put in it.

I think I need to work more to work in my full servings of fruits and veggies.  I don’t do too badly with the fruits, thought I’m not eating a lot of them, but I’ve not been so good about the veggies.

This week I got a Community Supported Agriculture basket for $23.  It had the kale, potatoes, squash, egg plant, cucumbers, banana peppers, a cantalope, yellow tomatoes, arugla and basil.  I’ve been trolling my favorite recipe sites to see how to best use them.

I also think I need to up my intake of water.  Despite it being like the surface of the sun here, I’ve slacked off on my water.  I was drinking, while at work, three 36 ounces of water.  I seem to have dropped down to one, maybe two a day.  I don’t know what the difference is, but I’ve slacked off my water.

Anyone have any suggestions on other things I can do to get off this plateau?  Obviously working out more is not the answer.

I don’t have any advice, but I have a lot of sympathy and been there done that feelings to bolster you with. Losing weight is NOT an easy thing by any means, and it is horrible when you get stuck on one of those plateaus.

I think you made a great decision with switching your breakfast choices up. I think upping your water can help as well.

Good luck as you continue your weight-loss journey!

I’ll bet you are converting with as much exercise as you are getting – in other words your fat is changing over to muscle, which actually weighs more. Don’t fret too much and worry what the scale says, look at how your clothes are fitting (or not anymore!) and how you feel.

I went through a numbers plateau like that for 6 months where my weight stayed the same, but I dropped two clothing sizes, and then it just kickstarted again and I dropped 10 lbs like it was nothing. Muscle mass not only weighs more, it burns more calories too!

    Hang in there!
