Family Game Night

November 16th, 2010 · No Comments · Family Life

Sunday nights are generally slow, casual affairs at our house.  We do the Target and grocery store run in the afternoon and then spend the rest of the late afternoon and evening reading the paper and being lazy.

One Sunday evening recently we played games and ate junk food.  Salsa with chips, jalepona poppers, postato chip.  Banagrams, Trouble and Uno!

It was fun.

We talked about whether we wanted to make this a regular Sunday evening ritual.

We bought Scrabble, though it may be a little old for the BoyChild.    He doesn’t seem to “get” that he needs points to win and appears to prefer the less structured Banagrams.

We bought Blokus.  A spatial game that I wasn’t sure I would like.  Me not being a spatial sort of person.  But I like it.

But instead of a Sunday night ritual, it has become an everyday ritual.  We usually eat dinner between 5:30 and 6:30.  The BoyChild has discovered the wonders of Wheel of Fortune and we play a game or two between 7:00 and when the BoyChild has to start getting  ready for bed at 7:30.  And I enjoy it.  I would almost go so far as to say I am disappointed when we can’t play a game.

What games do you play?

Exercise Report:  Monday night (yesterday) I went to the health club before dinner.  I did 5 minute warm up for .24 miles.  5 minutes on the stairmaster for 11 flights of stairs.  30 minutes on the treadmill for 1.30 miles.  I still hate it.
