Water Water Everywhere

June 23rd, 2005 · 3 Comments · Family Life

I have been making a concerted effort to drink more water during the day. I know it is good for me. And I don’t really mind drinking the water. It’s the peeing all the time that I mind.

What happens is I drink coffee.ALL.DAY.LONG. The Husband makes me a pot of coffee every morning. He puts it into a huge thermos which I take to my office and sit on my desk. I don’t even have to get up to go get coffee! How great is that?

And then I sit.

And Drink.

And Sit.

And Drink.

Until my eyeballs are floating and I am so hyped up on coffee it takes me hours to come down.

Then I go home about 5:30 or 6:00 and I’m parched.

Coffee is full of caffine but really does nothing to quench thirst.

So I switch to water. Between the time I get home, and the time I go to bed, I can drink three or four of those 64 ounce tupperware plastic glasses.

And then I pee all night.

Does everyone get up to pee two or three times a night? Cause I sure do. So between my kids and peeing all night, I haven’t had a good nights sleep in 11 years.

So I decided to try to drink more water during the day to see if that kept me from drinking so much at night and peeing all the time.

I don’t know whether it is going to work. The only real change I’ve noticed is that I’m getting more exercise because now, in addition to peeing all night, I’m peeing all day. I know it’s a sign of diabetes but I don’t have diabetes. I’ve always drank a lot of liquid be it iced tea, water, coffee but it seems as I get older, my bladder’s not up for as much liquid as I use to.

I’ll let you know how it goes. I’m sure you’re on the edge of your seat with anticipation.

Isn’t getting old a bitch?

    You make me laugh!

And yes, I, too, get up to pee at night almost as much now as WHEN I WAS PREGNANT, which is so very very sad.

And props to the husband for the to-go coffee!

M, how do you get any sleep?

I had the same thought as Susan. All of that pregnant nighttime peeing is not missed.

The whole 8 glasses of water per day is a myth by the way. The latest studies show that we can get a lot of the water we need every day from the food we eat.

Too much water can actually make it harder for your kidneys to function properly. So just space the fluids evenly throughout the day, and only drink when thirsty.
