Another Little Birdie Leaves the Nest

The BoyChild starts pre-school tomorrow.

This week has been a flurry of getting ready for that. Monday night we went to a “parents meeting” at the school. We were provided with a little packet of forms to fill out, a supplies list, information they require and of course the payment schedule; $145 a month for two days a week from 9:00 to 11:30.

Tuesday morning we took the BoyChild to school for 45 minutes so he could meet the teacher and get to know the others in his class. There are 8 kids (7 boys and 1 girl) and two teachers in his class.

This afternoon the Husband, the BoyChild and the GirlChild made the run to SuperTarget and Office Depot in search of his school supplies.

Diapers
Babywipes
Diaper rash stuff
Kleenex
Glue Sticks
Soft soap
Band-aids

The GirlChild gave him one of her old backpacks. It has SpongeBobSqurePants on it and while too big for him, it was very thoughtful; the BoyChild loves SpongeBob. I’m not sure what he’ll carry in it but at least he’s got it if he needs it.

I’m a little anxious about all this. The BoyChild has never been around children his own age much. He plays with the GirlChild but despite all my bitchin and gritchin they play very well together.

Today there was a ruckus over a car. One little boy didn’t want to share it with the BoyChild, or anyone else for that matter. The parents were embarrassed. The BoyChild just bided (is that a word) his time. Sure enough the other little boy set it down, wasn’t paying attention and the BoyChild took that opportunity to swoop down, get the car and take it somewhere else away from the non-sharing little boy. Tears were shed. I see trouble from that car.

They have little cubbies for the kids stuff. Since the kids can’t read, they asked us to bring pictures so they will know which cubbie belongs to them. The GirlChild picked a picture to go in his cubbie that included her. The BoyChild seemed pleased with it, and it was a recent picture, just having been taken on the GirlChild’s first day 4th Grade just last week, so we took it.

The BoyChild isn’t very aggressive with the other children. I don’t know if he’s just naturally not very aggressive or whether he was just unsure of himself in the new environment. I guess we’ll find out.

I do know one thing for sure. My BoyChild is the best looking kid in the class!

If anyone needs me first thing in the morning, I’ll be in my car in the parking lot crying.

Ciao,

M&Co.
