Disease and Pestilence

February 5th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Family Life, The GirlChild

I’m hoping and praying that disease and pestilence hasn’t descended upon my house.

The GirlChild is home sick today.  She woke up with a slight fever.  She doesn’t have the hacking cough and sinus drainage and congestion that seems to be the flu (at least not yet).

I’m hoping (is it really possible to hope your kid has one disease instead of another) it’s the short-lived stomach virus thing.

I’m also hoping no one (a futile hope, I know) else in our house gets it.

Before I left for the office this morning, I went to check on her.  Felt her forehead.  Told her what was getting ready to happen (I was going to work and David had to get a flat tire fixed) left her room and went directly to the bathroom and washed my hands.

Does anyone know whether microwaving tooth brushes really does kill germs?

I’m gonna go with yes on the microwaving thing. Also, putting them in the dishwasher (which is what I do). And yes, I’ve also hoped for a particular illness when my son is getting sick — as if I can choose the lesser of two illnesses! Of course, if I really wanted to fantasize, I’d wish for our kids to not get sick at all. (Beginning wish cycle…now.) Hope your daughter feels better soon and the rest of you stay well!!

Oh Beth! I like the idea of putting them in the dishwasher. I’m gonna try that tonight.

Great! A friend of mine used to buy baby toys from thrift stores for her son and run them through the dishwasher before letting him play with them. I always thought it was clever of her to use the most obvious solution. :-)
