Cookies

I made these last week.

They are Gluten Free/Dairy Free and, I think, Feingold Stage I. These are Namaste Foods Cookies Mix. As sugar cookies, rolled in sugar, they are F-SI. I’m not sure cinnamon is an approved Stage I ingredient, but the BoyChild won’t eat them anyway, so I’m not real concerned about it.

They do not have the same texture as cookies made with wheat flour, but it is a pretty close match. They are a little crumbly but not as bad as some other stuff I’ve made. They don’t have the good sweet cookie smell, unless you put cinnamon and sugar on them, that plain sugar cookies have while baking.

They are kind of pricey; I paid $6.99 at the local Homeland but I was so excited I could actually buy them at the grocery store that I snagged them. I also bought Namaste Foods Brownie mix but haven’t tried it yet.

The cookies price out right at 30 cents a cookie. I tell you, I had to think for a second when the BoyChild dropped one on the floor about whether to encourage him to pick it up and eat it, or to throw it away. The dog came scampering in about that time and ate it so I wasn’t faced with that dilemma.

Amazon has these cookies for a little less per package, but you have to buy six packages. In my kitchen, storage can be an issue so if I had to do that with everything, it would be a problem. It does, however, qualify for free shipping.

I need to figure out how to freeze stuff like this so I can send it to school with the BoyChild and I won’t have to be constantly scrambling for snacks and treats for him.

They look yummy! Boy, this is so complicated, isn’t it? But good for you M., on continuing to try new things!

If the Namaste pasta mixes meet with the Feingold diet, I highly recommend those. Both my husband and I liked the Say Cheez and Pizza (i think?), the taco one was really spicy though. Also, their muffin mix is pretty good.

My wife and I have put together a website (www.aspergerstore.com) that lists all of the Feingold-approved foods that Amazon carries, along with links to those products (over 2,000 products currently listed). The site is continuously updated as products are added and removed from the list. This has helped us with our Asperger daughter. It may help you or others save time in searching for these foods.

    Those cookies look yummy.
    Dogs are great, aren’t they?
I miss my dog. She would eat every crumb off of the floor. Now I have to (should) sweep every day.
