What I’m Doing

March 24th, 2006 · 3 Comments · What I'm Doing

I’ve not written much recently. I find I can (in my spare time) stitch or read or write. I can’t do all three though I can generally do two of the things. Since I’ve finished my bookclub book for this month, I thought I’d update on what I’m doing.

I started this stocking on about 3/11/2006. My Brother and SIL, UncleC and AuntB, have decided to adopt a baby. Knowing how stressful this can be, I’m a little anxious for them but also excited by the possibility. I am TIRED of my children being the only ones at family functions and want someone for them to play with. Since we don’t know whether it’s going to be a boy or a girl, I tried to pick one that is more or less uni-sex. I thought this fit the bill perfectly! It is a lovely 18 hpi canvas designed by the wonderfully talented Shelley Tribbey. I love her stuff, not just because it is cute and creative, but because it is perfectly stitch painted. That means, there is never any question about what color goes where. I’m not creative AT.ALL. and I tend to stress over whether I’m doing it “right” when I have to make choices about “do I put the dark blue here or the light blue here.”

Here’s a picture I took on 3/13/2006 where I’d worked on the waves. I’m using Caron’s Watercolours Ocean Breeze for the lightest portion of the waves. Ocean Breeze is a beautiful subtle overdyed with shades of ocean blue, purple and green. I’m using perle cotton number 5 for the remainder of the waves; DMC 939 for the dark navy blue/black portions, Anchor No. 169 for the darker blue gray and DMC 807 for the lighter blue gray.

I’m stitching the waves using the Nobuko stitch. I love this stitch probably more than any other and I use it in most of the things I stitch. It is a good stitch because it can be used in either direction,(i.e. going / way or slanted the other way) it has a subtle pattern that’s pretty but doesn’t overwhelm the piece and it’s easy to compensate. I’m stitching the black/navy blue portions in simple basketweave to give the eyes some place to rest when looking at the waves.

Here’s another picture I took on 3/13/2005 of the toe of the canvas. I’m stitching this using Brown Paper Packages Trio in two colors (Red Hot and Watermelon) using straight stitches each color going in opposite directions. My picture doesn’t do it justice, but it is lovely!

Ciao,
M&Co.

That is just GORGEOUS. I know that your brother and SIL (and the baby, whatever sex it will be) will love it.

That is so breathtaking, it is hard to tell it is even stitched at all! Also, really liking the newest addition to your family! He is real purdy!
