To add to my list of things I hate.
People who return calls to numbers that appear on their caller ID.
There are five attorneys in my office. On any given day there are as many, and some days more, support staff there. There are probably four or five telephone numbers coming into our phones. There are seven different lines. I don’t really know how it works. Kinda like magic I suppose.
Anyway, when I pick up my phone, it picks up a certain line with a particular telephone number. That doesn’t mean someone else can’t pick up my line, it just means that’s the one my phone automatically selects. If someone is on that line, it will pick up the next.
A day does not go by that some nimrod doesn’t call and say, “this number appeared on my caller ID. Who are you and what did you want?”
In the first place, the chance that the person actually answering the phone knows anything about this dolt are slim. The chances that the person actually answering the phone actually gives a crap about him or her are none.
I always want to say, “Look. If they really wanted to talk to you, they would have left a message. If they didn’t leave a message, then they don’t really need to talk to you!”
Instead we put them on hold and pretend we are trying to figure out who called them. Invariably no one fesses up and the simpleton on the other line acts like we are bothering him taking up his time.
Get a grip folks!
