The Back to School Blues

August 19th, 2011 · 1 Comment · Family Life

I’ve got the back to school blues.

I know most people are glad when school starts, the routine begins, when everything goes back to normal.

But I’m in that small minority of people who is sad when my kid has to return to school.  I enjoy the unstructured summer time.  We can stay up late, watching movies or television together.   He can stay in his underware all day if he wants.  He comes to my office and draws me pictures or plays on the computer or plays on my phone, giving me a running commentary on what’s happening in whatever game he’s playing.

Going back to school means early bedtimes.  Getting up early.   Homework.  Uniforms.  Meetings.  In short, the daily grind of life.

I enjoy the BoyChild.  Even though I’m not with him during the day most of the time, when he’s in school, I miss him.

So now I’ll begin counting down the days until he gets out for summer vacation next summer.
