I need to get out more

Last night I met Susan in real life.

It was like a blind date. “I’ll be wearing the blue pants and the white/blue/orange shirt and the black flip flops.” Only unlike a blind date there was no pressure. I recognized her as soon as I walked up. And I liked her. A lot.

We talked. For 3 and 1/2 hours. About kids and family and jobs and houses and schools and men and computers and life in general. When I came home late last night, at least late for me in the middle of the week it was 10:45, the husband said, ‘what did y’all talk about all this time?” All I could think to respond was, “Stuff.”

Susan is medium height, thin, beautiful skin with saucy blond hair. Maybe not as saucy as the ex-lesbian now wants to be hetero-mommy hair, but very saucy none-the-less. And nice. And friendly. And open. And funny. And did I say nice?

And we shared secrets. Did you know the Waterford sells memberships to the pool for the summer for $200? Did you know the flavors they add to kids medicines at Walgreens works? Did you know if you are sick and turn the TV on and lock them in your bedroom, you can sometimes score an additional hour of sleep before you have to get up? And it won’t totally ruin their lives or yours?

It was so nice. To talk. And drink coffee. And not have anyone whining at you. Or wanting something from you. Or needing a diaper change. And to laugh.

I need to get out more.

Ciao,

M&Co.

You’re so nice! And I had a great time, too. We need to do it again, soon. And often!

And I promise never to ask you to change my diaper.

I am so jealous of you both, painting my home town red. Sounds like a good date. “Stuff” was an excellent answer. Does he really NEED to know? No.

Isn’t it amazing what an uninterrupted conversation with another adult can do for one’s well-being?
