I am going to be 50 soon. ”Soon” being a relative term meaning in 2 and 1/2 more years or 32 months to be more precise.
I need to do something big. I’ve not yet figured out what that will be yet.
I’m thinking I need to run a marathon.
There are two things standing between me and that goal; my two feet.
I broke my toe about 2 1/2 years ago. I was just walking through my living room. Barefooted. And I caught one of the overstuffed chairs with my foot. This was the result:

I think I told you about that fiasco. I went to the doctor like three months after it happened for my annual exam. She looked at it and told me to get an x-ray. The x-ray showed it was broken. She told me to go to an orthopedic. I said, “Is there really anything an orthopedic can do for a broken toe besides what I’m already doing?” Yes I needed to go. I made a 7:45 appointment. I had to be in Court at 9:30 that day. I got there. They took x-rays and then plopped me in a room. Where I waited. And I listened to the orthopedic yuck it up about his recent ski trip with the other orthopedics there and talk to his nurse about her various problems and flirt with the drug rep. Finally, a little after 9:00 when I said, “I have to be in Court so I’m leaving now” the orthopedic wanted to talk about my toe. And he told me to do what I’d been doing; taping it up. GAH! Anyway. That mess took six or eight months to stop hurting. And sometimes it is still sore.
And then I got that awful Plantar fasciitis. That is still present. It never seems to go away. It gets better. Then it will flare up and hurt again. I don’t think it’s every completely stopped hurting since I first got it last August.
Last week at the expo for the Marathon, I got a sample of a product called BioFreeze. And after I returned home from the race, when I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to walk down my stairs to go into the kitchen my foot hurt so bad, I got that bad-boy out of my bag and slapped it on my foot. It reminds me of IcyHot without the hot burning aspect of IcyHot.
I trolled around the internet and sent my husband out to buy me some. I picked the roll-on version. I’m not crazy about having that smelly stuff on my hands. And the other night before I went to the health club, I rolled some on my foot. It didn’t stop my foot from hurting when I was actually running/walking. But it did seem like it didn’t hurt as much the rest of the evening. So that’s improvement, right?
I also haven’t had a cigarette since last Sunday. It’s making me fuzzy, out of sorts, disoriented. I can’t tell that my breathing has improved. I’m assuming that it will though.
I’ve also started interval training. Run 3 minutes walk 2 minutes for 45 minutes.
So. If I can quit smoking. Get my foot injuries under control. And loss weight. Maybe I’ll run a Marathon before I’m 50.
Anyone want in with me?

I have PF… due to cute shoes! 3 and higher inch heels did it for me! But when we were going to the gym daily, I noticed that it “went away”. I was using a weight machine that was like squats… it’s called a leg press. And I would put my toes on the edge of the block and let the weights “bounce” stretching the back of my legs. And then alternate feet putting letting each take all the weight in that same bouncing motion. It helped me a great deal. I am up to 100 pounds. I started out at 75.
You work with a trainer? ask him or her about doing something to help pull the muscles in your calves, if I’m wrong about what I did. But I really think that is what helped me. It also helped pull in my feet, the bottoms. I do not get so many cramps.
Oh and we get to that upper age too quickly…round down!!
And you can beat the smoking thing… you are a strong modern woman and can do anything!! That is my mantra. I only trip up over cake and big cup Reese’s.

What a beautiful blog you have! I just discovered it (although I see you’ve been writing since 2003).
I’m also considering doing the Couch 2 5K. I’m thinking of running in the Race for the Cure in October. Maybe I’ll see you there!
(good luck with your feet – ouch!)
