Who ever thought one TV could cause so much technical overload

January 5th, 2010 · No Comments · Family Life

This Christmas David and I bought a 42 inch television as our gift.  We do that, instead of buying one another stuff, we generally decide what we want, or need, and buy that.  With all that has been going on in our lives recently we needed a new TV.

The new television is big (42 inches), shiny, has a beautiful picture and doesn’t dominate my living room as much as I’d feared.

This gave us the opportunity to do something I’ve wanted to do for a long time; create a game room.

We got the Wii a year or more ago, but we didn’t have enough space on the back of the TV* to use it downstairs so it’s been hooked up to the TV in our bedroom.  With all the swinging and dancing that goes in when we play Wii?  Not an ideal situation.

So we took the television that was down stairs and moved it to the unused bedroom upstairs.

It’s pretty kewl.  But it’s caused some sort of technical overload.  We have suddenly gone from no cable in this room and never having spent more than 10 minutes at a time in here, to digital cable and five – yes  FIVE – remotes!  With our wireless and our laptop, I never have to leave!

We now have Wii, a television, a receiver, three speakers, the digital cable DVR box, the VCR player/record, the DVD player and just for good measure the CD player.   We’ve officially gone into technical overload.

And now I have to stop writing.  David is trying to hook all this equipment up to one universal remote.  Apparently, the clicking of my keyboard is loud and annoying.

*That’s about as technical as I can get.  When David starts talking about HDMI cables and components all I hear is blah, blah, blah.
